I wonder how many of you have ever seen an Austin Healey 3000 Coupe. Well, this was your chance to see not one, but two. One was designed at Warwick with body built by Jensen Motors, with the second car being built at Longbridge.
Don Humphries, a long time member of the Midlands Centre, has owned both the "One Off" Coupe's for many years and had very kindly offered to allow a visit of interested members, to see them at his home together with 3 other Austin Healeys.
It was a lovely sunny Sunday afternoon in rural Worcestershire in late July
when a number of members accepted the invitation. The plan was to arrive about
3.00 have a look at the cars and have a picnic. Well the enthusiasm of Don took
over and we spent all afternoon talking about the two cars. One car was built
at Jensen and the other at Longbridge. Both cars were built as projects from
existing production vehicles, but never proceeded any further than costing.
Don's 3000MkIII, which had 16 000 miles on the clock, was also parked on the
lawn. His wife Carol graciously plied us all with sparkling wine and cakes,
what a super way to spend an afternoon.
All was not finished as Don showed us his garage, which contained not only a
100/4 but 3 other cars as well with space for the 3 other Austin Healey's parked
on the grass outside.
