Sandwell Historic Vehicle Show

Sunday 11th May 2003 saw this well loved event celebrate its 25th Anniversary, with the Midlands Centre entering 13 cars, covering most types of Austin Healey's, in the Club display area, with many owners entering their cars for judging.

My goodness, didn't we do well. Class "R" (Sports Cars 1956 - 1983) was won by our own Phil Wright of Wombourne, Nr Wolverhampton, with his immaculate 1964 3000 Mk 3 (Photo below), heading off much competition from Jaguar, MG, Triumph etc.

The trophy for best Austin Healey was won by Craig Polly with his superb1969 Mk 4 Sprite. (Photo below)

This annual event is held at the Sandwell Valley Park, just off Junction 1 of the M5, West Bromwich and was very well attended by both general public and entrants, representing a wide range of transport.

This show is particularly important for Austin Healey's, as the chassis was made at John Thompsons and body panels made at Boulton Paul, both in nearby Wolverhampton. Part assembly took place at Jensen Motors, West Bromwich, before the cars were finished at Longbridge for the early cars and then at Abingdon.

On behalf of Midlands, a big thank you to all who entered there cars and supported the club and hope you all enjoyed the day, despite the odd shower of rain.
(Well done Tracy for the Quick Refurb on your Sprite Mk 111.)
